ASH HOUSE
A derelict Farm Cottage and outbuildings transformed
Our brief for the interior was to re-create the splendour of a Georgian gentlemen’s residence. From the classic limestone entrance hall with black marble cabochons, a slender Georgian staircase rises to a galleried landing affording access to the five magnificent bedrooms each with ensuite bathrooms clad in marble.
The principal rooms are faithful reproductions of traditional Georgian interiors with beautiful antique Georgian chimneys pieces, ornate plaster work and traditional Georgian six panel doors opened by unlacquered brass door furniture for true authenticity. Traditional two-piece skirting boards and architraves formed from a combination of ogee and ovolo mouldings recreate the appropriate scale and detail.
In contrast with this traditional interior, a state of the art Crestron Home Automation System was installed to control all aspect of the property’s heating, lighting, security and home entertainment systems. A great deal of time was spent with the client tailoring these control systems – firstly to ensure they remained hidden when not in use and secondly in programming the equipment to suit his way of life. The home entertainment system included audio and video servers, both of which could be viewed in virtually every room in the house and controlled by wireless touch screens.
The indoor leisure complex presented a different challenge. This single storey former cow shed was to be transformed into a cutting edge contemporary swimming pool complex incorporating a spa, gym, steam room and changing facilities. The structural difficulties of forming a swimming pool inside an existing building were overcome and specialist interior designers were employed to create a sleek minimalist monolithic interior complemented by bespoke American Black Walnut furniture.
